Meet Rob

"My name is Rob McKinney.

I am running for Metro Council in

District 23 and I am asking you for your vote."

Who is Rob McKinney? I am a Nashville native. I was born here in Madison, Tennessee.  My roots are well established here. I graduated from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee.  After college, I worked full time in a family business.  While working full time, I applied to and was accepted to the Nashville School of Law.  I worked full time during the day and attended law school at night for four (4) years. I know what sacrifice means.

While in law school, I was offered a job by one of my law professors, Mr. Jack A. Butler, also a native of Nashville and prominent local attorney. I graduated law school in 1994 and passed the Tennessee Bar Exam in 1994.  I opened my own law office in 1997. I learned the tough lessons and responsibilities of running a small business like making payroll, hiring employees, managing money and budgeting. In 2017, I formed a new law practice named May & McKinney, where I am the managing partner.

My first political experience was in Congress. I was a page in Congress during the Watergate hearings. I interned later for a congressman. Mayor Phil Bredesen appointed me to the Metropolitan Nashville Beer Permit Board, where I served one term. The Beer Permit Board approves permits and has hearings on violations of the beer permit laws.

Metro Nashville has various boards that help run the city. I am very familiar with how they work. I later became a board member of a nonprofit with[KB1]  over 1000 members. I was secretary[KB2] , treasurer, and later president. Again, I have experience in the details of operating an organization. Experience counts.

Why am I running? I am a Nashville native.  I have lived in West Meade since 1986 with my wonderful wife of over thirty (30) years, Lorie Cummings McKinney.   Lorie and I love this neighborhood.  We raised our three (3) children here. This area of Nashville is special to me.  My goal is to protect and keep the sanctity of our neighborhood intact.
